Experience Holistic Healing Through Classical Chinese Medicine
Ancient Wisdom for Modern-Day Wellness
At Foundations of Wellness, we draw upon the rich lineage of Classical Chinese Medicine to help you restore balance, alleviate symptoms, and reconnect with your natural state of vitality. Serving clients in both Bowie and Columbia, MD, our team of experienced practitioners uses time-tested therapies—acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, and nutritional guidance—to support your healing journey at its root.
In a world that often treats symptoms in isolation, Chinese Medicine offers something profoundly different: an integrative, whole-person approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of health.
Whether you’re struggling with chronic pain, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, or emotional stress, our personalized treatments are designed to support deep, lasting transformation.
Comprehensive Care Rooted in Tradition
Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) is not just a set of techniques—it’s a complete medical system built on the understanding that the body has an innate capacity to heal when properly supported. At Foundations of Wellness, your care may include:
Acupuncture to restore energetic flow and relieve pain or tension including primary and complement channels
Customized Chinese Herbal Medicine to address internal imbalances and nourish core systems
Cupping therapy to release stagnation, detoxify tissues, and improve circulation
Nutritional and lifestyle guidance based on Chinese dietary theory and seasonal living
Acupressure, essential oils, and stones to enhance the healing process
We work closely with you to identify the underlying causes of your health concerns—whether they stem from long-standing imbalances or more recent disruptions—so that healing can unfold on all levels.

Teresa Thompson, M.O.M., L.Ac.
Licensed Acupuncturist | Chinese Herbalist | Health & Wellness Coach | Masters of Oriental Medicine, Maryland University of Integrative Health
Bio
Yes, Teresa is a Mom (with one daughter and eight grandchildren) and a M.O.M. (Master of Oriental Medicine).
Teresa Thompson is a nationally board-certified, licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbal practitioner with a Master’s of Oriental Medicine from Maryland University of Integrative Health, formerly Tai Sophia Institute. In addition to acupuncture and Chinese herbs, she offers her patients wellness coaching, somatic experiencing, cultivation practices, and deep listening.
For 24 years, Teresa worked with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which primarily holds a Western Medical paradigm offering external interventions to the challenges of life. Over the past 13 years she has learned to integrate Western Medical concepts into the model of Oriental Medicine. This includes an understanding that wellness encompasses all levels of our being. Body, Mind, and Soul must be addressed to potentiate true wellness. Lack of ease on any level can lead to pain and disease. Paying attention to our body and recognizing that physical symptoms have connections to other layers of our experience is a key. Engaging this key begins with noticing whatever shows up with a surety that the body is wise and will teach us if we listen. Our attention and intention invite activation of internal healing processes. Through her personal practices including prayer, meditation, qigong, and yoga Teresa learned to listen to the body and to inner guidance. That inner guidance is present in each of us.
Teresa engages her patients in a process of discovering what wellness is for their current life situation. She invites needed change through needles and words. Encouraging each person to see beyond perceived limitations removes obstacles to transformation and restores flow to life.
Would you benefit from working with someone who will hold space for you to learn to listen to your own inner voice, give attention to what is asking to be heard, and ask the questions you need to ask yourself to be fully alive and well? Call or text Teresa today to schedule a time to see if this work is your next step.
